Grand Final Day One Round Up

The qualification rounds of the British Shooting Shotgun Grand Final 2017 got under way today at Fauxdegla Premier Shooting Ground in Wales. The much-anticipated event pitted the best-of-the-best from the UK against one another to compete for the title of British Shooting Grand Final Champion. Both Trap and Skeet shooters featured on day one, with Matt Coward Holley who has only recently converted to Trap from Double Trap finishing top of the male rankings with a score of 74ex 75 after three rounds. The junior male Trap highest scoring athlete was Jake Janes with 72ex 75.. The top scoring Trap female was Abby Ling who hit 71ex75, with junior female Trap top score of 69ex 75 going to Rebecca Ferguson.In Skeet it was Ben Llewellin who topped the male standings with a score of 74ex 75, and Luke Young the top scoring junior with a score of 65ex 75..The top female Skeet performer was Elena Allen with a score of 73ex 75 and the junior top scorer was Lara Dale with 66ex 75. The top Paratrap athlete was Steve Ling with a score of 70ex 75But all can change on day two with two more qualification rounds still to shoot before the six shooters from each discipline are confirmed for the final. There is also a mixed pairs event in both Trap and Skeet and after day one its married couple Ed and Abbey Ling who are leading the standings with a score of 142. Ben Llewellin and Amber Hill lead the Skeet mixed pairs with a score of 146.Speaking midway through qualification, Amber Hill said: I think the Grand Final is a great concept that British Shooting has introduced and Fauxdegla has been a great venue to host it at.I am really happy with the way I performed today, I felt comfortable on the ranges and Im feeling confident going into day two. The Grand Final is providing spectators with the chance to watch Olympians and world medallists shoot against each other and entry for both spectators and athletes will be supplemented by British Shooting – making it completely free to either take part or support the shooters and enjoy the live action.Both men and women will compete over 125 targets + final, as well as the all new mixed discipline which sees genders competing together as well as a Paratrap event with disability athletes. The focus of the event is to bring the best shooters in the UK together. Qualification was determined by combining each athletes best three finishing placings taken from a defined list of events through 2017. This included both international and major domestic competitions.
