Para Success In Al Ain

The Al Ain World Shooting Para Sport World Cup 2018 took place over the last week and British Shootings athletes had some fantastic success! The two stand-out performances came from Rifles, Matt Skelhon who won gold in R3 (10m Air Rifle Prone Mixed SH1) and silver in R6 (50m rifle prone mixed SH1), and Para Traps Allan Ritchie who won gold in his discipline. Ryan Cockbill also shot brilliantly to secure bronze in both R5 and R9 with scores of 232.1 and 225.2 respectively.Add to that Cockbills two team golds in R4 and R9  alongside Tim Jeffery and James Bevis, as well as a silver in R5, and cumulatively GB came away from Al Ain with eight medals, including four gold medals, two silvers and two bronzes. There were also fantastic performances from Rifles Lorraine Lambert and Stewart Nangle, who both finished in the final in their events. Back to Para Trap, and Ritchies qualification round score was phenomenal. He hit a 110/125, which set a new world record joint with Scottie Brydon of Australia. It means the performance also sets a new European record and British record. Speaking after the result, Ritchie said: Winning gold is an amazing feeling, especially after the poor start I had over the first 15 targets. It justifies all the time taken  training and embedding solid process and mental conditioning, without this to fall back on I would have probably not medalled at all. "The previous World Record for qualification was held by GBs own Matthew Goodwin, 104/125. Beating this and setting a new joint World Record of 110/125 with Australias Scottie Brydon is somewhat surreal. Its not really sunk in yet.“The quality of para Olympic Trap is growing, averages are ever increasing so I fully expect this to be broken at either the next World Cup in France, or the World Championships in Italy this year. Hopefully Ill be one of the athletes competing for it."Also in Para Trap, Matt Drever was just one place off a medal position, with a fourth spot finish.
