Fauxdegla Shotgun Series Success

The second Trap leg of the British Shooting Shotgun Series was a huge success as the sun beamed down on Fauxdegla Premier Shooting Ground in Wrexham last weekend. With the first leg in Nuthampstead taking place in freezing temperatures when the Beast From The East hit the UK, shooters were blessed with much better conditions for the event in North Wales. Building on the success of the British Shooting Grand Final 2017, the Shotgun Series is designed to provide a really exciting and inspirational competition series for all shotgun shooters across the UK, culminating in what will be another fantastic Grand Final event in 2018. The likes of Charlotte Kerwood, Kirsty Barr, Matt Coward-Holley, Aaron Heading and Allan Ritchie all travelled to the Welsh Hills as they continued on their Shotgun Series road to the Grand Final which takes place later this year. The Series consists of three ‘rounds’ which will allow shooters to qualify for the end-of-season Grand Final event. Each round, and the Grand Final itself, will also be the principal domestic events considered by the British Shooting Shotgun Selection Panel for selection for GB teams for major events.  There were some fantastic performances on the day, with Womens Traps Kirsty Barr and Mens Traps Matt Coward-Holley taking Gold in their respective disciplines. Barrs medal was made even more impressive given the fact her qualifying score of 120/125 was a new British record. The competition sees juniors, seniors and paras all shoot together in qualifying in an event that looks to replicate ISSF competition as closely as possible. And speaking after her win, Kirsty Barr explained how important it is to have competitions of this standard in the UK. She explained: The whole event has been absolutely perfect. The weather has been fantastic, the targets have been fantastic, the ground staff have been amazing and its ran so smoothly. The atmosphere is really important because you feed off each other as an athlete. Whenever the atmosphere is, the scores will be good! Its brilliant to shoot against my GB team mates Charlotte (Kerwood) got the Gold in the last one and I told her I wasnt going to let her get it at this one!The more competitive people are, the more that will drive scores up and the only way youre going to get into a final abroad is by having a really high score. We need strength in depth and I think the Shotgun Series is helping us get there.Fauxdegla, Trap Shotgun Series Medal Results: Womens:Kirsty BarrSharon NivenCharlotte HollandsMens:Matt Coward-HolleySteve ScottNathan HalesJunior Womens:Rebecca FergussonAugusta Campos-MartynElise DixonJunior Mens:Dan CampneyLewis OwenTom Betts
